hellooo
it's 6.03pm on sunday the 11th of december, and i just arrived home from meredith music festival 64 minutes ago.
oh it was lovely...
sitting on gumtrees sharing crepes with Alex while watching cut copy strut their stuff, discovering Will Shaff (mmm) and okkervil river, watching the sunset go down over the countryside with city city city playing in the background, not showering for three days, finding a friend who happened to work on the bar (free cocktails all weekend, ahyess), being 4 metres away from sons and daughters as they give one of the best sets i (and lily, and everyone else there) have everrrrr seen, dancing the fcuk out of wolfmother with Fraser till we (literally, but not till we found a nice soft patch of grass) dropped, seeing Will Shaff (mmm) and okkervil river, falling asleep to the avalanches, getting a tan!, getting free key rings (woo!), being told i had "gorgeous [insert generic characteristic]" x 10000 by men who obviously didn't realised my 'i am overage, let me in' armband wasn't my own, good ice cream, better nachos, best crepes, having all the artists walk around/eat/dance/chat with the rest of us lowly souls (including will shaff and the pretty lead from the vasco era offering to help look for my lost bankcard)...
that's all i can think of at the moment.
highlights:
cut copy - i don't know what it is about those boys, but they make me happy okkervil river - like bright eyes with his balls dropped the kills - ohyesss. so, so good. they're so good. sons and daughters - ahyesss, tres tres glad to have had that experience. time to be jealous is now. wolfmother - soooo soo good live! so good. their set at midnight on satdy, so the complete wastedness of everyone by then good have had something to do with our appreciation of their stuff. but whatever, i'll tell you after the next two times i'm to see them this summer. airbourne - ahahaha, rock on.

This Weather:
I love the sound of rain.
I love the smell of rain. Especially when it comes in December. The air here is sticky. I couldn’t sleep last night, too hot, too uncomfortable. Until the thunderstorm came, then I slept and it was good. The sun has not appeared today. Probably needed a rest after yesterday’s fine performance. What a way to bring in a Melbourne summer, 34 one day, thunderstorms the next.
To The Lighthouse: I’ve nearly finished reading the bronze horseman for the second time. It’s taken me longer this time, I guess because if I know a sad or slow bit is coming up, I take a break, watch that 70s show or something. There is so much to read on the holidays, and I’ve been brushing up on my Serbian grammar. So many cases - accusative, genitive, vocative, locative... I barely know what these words mean in English. No wonder I dropped German.
A Boy Like Me:
I saw HP & the Goblet of Fire yesterday. actually, i think every australian that i have come across since then saw it yesterday. Oh lordy! strike that - oh Jarvis! I'm with sophie when i say that the three or so seconds that he was on the screen were the best three or so seconds of my life. or my morning, at least. the silver! how good was the silver!? i didn't think voldemort looked much like david bowie, but i thought of you anyway.
Wind In The Wires: I watched One Perfect Day last night. I hadn't seen it since it was first released, and it made me cry just as much. maybe more so, because i'm sure that when i first saw it, i didn't keep rewinding the ending so i could listen to the song and cry all over again. Out of all the films from all the film-making countries, that is the one that makes me want to be an actor the most. I love crying. Someone once said they thought that was why I enjoy acting so much.
Ay, Dan Spielman, Balhatchet, mmm. I give you my hand, the fingers unfold.
The Gypsy King:
For those of you who were in the southern hemisphere yesterday (and before you laugh, that now includes many of my sophies, tahnees, rosas, vis, uyens and amys, soon jaffa - have i missed anyone? are there more than 3 of us left in melbourne?), you will know that it was HOT. summer hot. sweltering perfect-for-gelati hot. And so when an (actually not so) old friend contacted me, told me he'd like to catch up over ice cream, how was i to refuse? i cannot wait till we all can drive, it makes it all so much more simple. I was nervous, it's one of those friendships where we've always kept in touch, an instant message here, an sms there, but we'd actually only ever met up on our own once before, and that was awkward as a giant pineapple in the exam room to say the most. But ay, we has such a lovely afternoon! We both got three-flavour cups, and took a nice long walk around brunswick street, eating our pear sorbet, apricot gelato and hazelnut ice cream. But never fear, it wasn't as if i was eating crème brulee ice cream. My darling has nothing to worry about.
Epilogue:
I've had four straight days off work. I've read, been to the cinema, watched a sufficient amount of films, eaten delicious dumplings*, enjoyed the sun, enjoyed the rain, had scrumptious ice cream, slept, made sisterly bonds**, caught up with an old friend, discovered some new music***...
Next week i go to Meredith. And for those of you who are not yet sweating jealousy into your gumboots, have a good look at the line up, and have a long, hard think about what you were doing back in August, when the tickets sold faster than you could say "falls will sell out quite fast, i do predict, my dear Watson".
Summer is grand.
* a_nymphs_chair </span> nikki, you'll be so proud when you find out what i have discovered - ps. can we go to shanghai soon? **Heartbroken, again! (Gaby) ***Soph, among others, i finally got my hands on Love is a Number
note: i'm not sure why the fonts on this thing have been so...whatever they are being. please just excuse them |

nothing interesting to say. so i don't, i can't think of anything, so i give a brief smile. it's normal, isn't it? yes. until i laugh and show interest in the others. oops. don't let it slip, don't talk about it, certainly don't park out the front. I read all of the pages and there is still no answer, only all that was before I know must soon come after. that is the only way it can be so I stand in the sun, and I breathe with my lungs, trying to spare me the weight of the truth. you've spent your whole life sweating in an endless fever. and now you are laying in a bathtub full of freezing water. wishing you were a ghost.
and i had another sentence here, but it was not nice, so i deleted it. i'm nice |

I'm finished. I'm done. Done with year 11, done with psychology and environmental science, done with english, done with math, done with history, done with school, baby. Summer is a-comming and i'm jumping on the big hay-covered wagon (apologies to certain EURO-residing about-to-experience-a-cold-frosty-winter acquaintances).
And oh do I have so many plans. I had to write a list last night, it was a good one too. I bet you all wish you could do as much during the summer as I am going to do. I just bet you do!
I’ve also compiled the following list, which exists because at least if all else fails – if it rains every day of the holidays, if I break my arm, if all my friends decide to go to ‘Nam, if my boyfriend decides to break it off in favour of pursuing his celibacy-for-slash dream, if ALL else fails – this will still be there: The 94 acts that I (Perri, of Melbourne, Australia) am seeing (i.e. already have the shiny little tickets stored in the 3rd shoe box in which I store my CDs) this summer:
Franz Ferdinand
Kings of Leon The White Stripes Iggy & the Stooges The Dandy Warhols The Shins Sons And Daughters
The Kills Hoodoo Gurus The Cat Empire Mudvayne
Mylo The Zutons The Mars Volta Wolfmother x 3 Ozomatli Ugly Duckling Cut Copy x 2 Hilltop Hoods The Presets Magic Dirt Wolf & Cub The Go! Team The Subways Sarah Blasko x 2 Rolling Blackouts The Beautiful Girls Kelley Stoltz End of Fashion x 2 Little Birdy The White Buffalo The Mess Hall x 2 Evermore Mia Dyson Dallas Crane
Blackalicious British India Flaherty Corsano Duo Cog Pete Murray (eww) Eric Bibb Soul Wax AFI
2 Many DJs Sleater-Kinney Okkervil River The Nextmen Airbourne x 2 Dappled Cities Fly Youth Group x 2 Architecture In Helsinki The Magic Numbers The Living End Ash Grunwald Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks Billy Childish and The Buff Medways
Shihad Katalyst & RuCL Offcutts Clare Bowditch and The Feeding Set Vitalic You Am I The Grates x 3 The Vasco Era Lior Matt Walker and Ashley Davies x 2 67 Special TZU Gerling Bit By Bats Dei Hamo King Marong and Safara City City City Peeping Tom The Greenhorns
Dan Sultan and Scott Wilson Faker x 2 Rob Sawyer True Live The Avalanches DJ Show Beasts Of Bourbon Sonicanimation Johnny Idem Eddie Current Suppression Ring J-Live Common Edan Jean Grae M.I.A DJ Ajax DJ Jason Midro MU Caged Baby Fast Crew
Of course I won’t be seeing all of them. Some that are festival acts will be on at the same time, some I will be sleeping through, and some I will go well out of my way to avoid (Pete Murray, anyone?). But it’s a very nice, comprehensive list. See what I mean when I said it would be ok if my boyfriend breaks it off to pursue his hair-metal gay fantasy?
we find solace in melody… |

9 songs i'm into right now (or somethng to that effect): 1. the mess we're in - pj harvey and thom yorke 2. mind's eye - wolfmother 3. guns of brixton - nouvelle vague 4. london scene? - twisted charm 5. me and the bees - the softies 6. shut up & kiss me - pony up 7. landmark - the field mice 8. coast to coast - elliott smith 9. *secret song* - *secretly embarrassing artiste*
3 things that have been distracting me from doing other stuff: 1. one tree hill. did i mention i've been hooked? did i mention i haven't begun to study for my enviro exam yet? i cannot. i do not have time, not when someone handed me 25 episodes in a neat little package of a show i'd never watched and told me to be careful with how i used it. uhuuuua. addictive. tahnee has her dawson's creek and everyone else has their OC, so i figure i'm allowed this. 2. tiredness. it has engulfed me this week. 3. being in...i don't know what we're calling it, much like? whatever it is. it's partly consuming and completely amazing. being able to feel this way and have it be reciprocal is very good, and i wish it upon everyone
4 things you want to do before the year end: 1. throw the pasty winter shade 2. see sophie 3. be happy with my study scores 4. not break up
i tag: anyone who wants to be the one
my life is brilliant. my feeling's pure. i saw the one. of that i'm sure. he smiled at me across the room he was with another one. but i won't lose sleep on that, cause i've got a plan. |

It’s a much less fucked up week.
I just came out of my peer support leader 2006 interview. Pchang! Talk about being put on the spot. But I think I did okay. We shall see soon enough, at any rate. I’m listening to The Circle of Life from the start of the lion king. Mmmm. I often wish I was a pride-land animal.
Things that I have learned out today: + Mr A really is a dick. Of course I already knew this so it isn’t learned, but he’s managed to reiterated it. PLEASE STICK TO THE STUDY DESIGN ON EXAMS!!
+ atmosphere___ is much better at English than she let on. High distinction in the state competition, my friend. Add that to the geography comp you topped the school in earlier this year. Earned your place at Mac.rob much?
+ Setting one’s alarm for 1 hour earlier will not ensure an hour extra of study and time to wash one’s hair. It merely makes one hit snooze, lose sleep and get up too late. + Rosa makes good salads.
It’s lunch time now so I best get going, seeing how speech night rehearsals have cruelly taken away half of it.
3 free periods today. Again.
I love you, by the way. Did you know that? |

So my first shift at Barkly's was good. It was with two, good looking, very made up, very blonde girls who go to St Helena ("sennalina, yeah?"). They were nice and helpful. The work is soo easy, and i thought i had it good at McD. It’s basically “Hello” escort to table “Any drinks to start?” bring out bread rolls “How did you enjoy your meal this evening?” clear dishes.
But I sound like I’m not earning my $16/h ($21 on Sundays J). The chefs are verrry rude and apparently unforgiving of “fuck ups” as I was told about 37 times, and carrying one hot, heavy plate is difficult, let alone the 3 I’m supposed to “be a natural at in no time”.
Ashe arrived home yesterday. Her plane from London got in at 4am. What a joyous start. So she’s back in one of the lounge rooms, and has already made a considerable dent in our salad stock (I swear, that girl gobbles more than if nikki and sophie morphed together into some giant icy pole stick sized eating apparatus). she says she’ll be moving out within a week…but I believe that was the intent of her last 2 year stay. So we’ll see. If she doesn’t, there is lots lovely clothing to be borrowed. She brought me some v cool present-s. Chloe perfume from NY, a tote bag from the Tate Britain and some gooood vinyls from France.
This has got to be the most lackluster/self-indulgent post, so for those of you who read it, I commend you for your efforts.
I’m outtie.

After this morning's events (a flashing of The Handmaid's Tale, and later, a flashing of some nice old man's privates - ahh, the city), i felt it best to come home and treat myself. Three chocolate mousse cupcakes and 6 episodes of Sex & The City later, i sat down to read Cynthia Lennon's memoir and listen to Sgt Pepper's. It's flowery, dreamy style perfectly suits my current history assignment (American Social Movements of the 1960s: The Hippies). I look at this picture:

and i can't help but wonder, was i born too late? Not that i'm necessarily saying that i want to lie around naked all day, with nothing better to do than look for the cheapest LSD dealer. But i can't help but get a nice butterfly-y summer free feeling when my mind is in the midst of all those flowers, "love" and "peace". It's fun to romanticise about, anyway. My mother saw the Beatles when she was 14. Not that they're totally representative of what i'm talking about. But she was quite the 60s flower child. I like this picture too:
do i look like her?
And finally, that iconic image published a month after John Lennon's December 1980 death has been ranked the top magazine cover of the last 40 years by a panel of magazine editors, artists and designers. Ok, so this was in mX over a week ago, i don't update all that often... And while that's all well and good, others on the list include images from the September 11 attacks, the Vietnam War and of Katiti Kironde II, the first black woman on the cover of a national women's magazine. But which cover should come a big fat second?
A pregnant Demi Moore.
I ask you...

mr allan and i have almost identical ipods. well actually that is a lie. my ipod far exceeds his in musical superiority. my ipod has about 3 times as many artists. mr allan's ipod doesn't have the libertines or pulp. but he does have a whollllllle lot of good music. a whole lot. tres weird. i could only see about 5 artists that he has that i do not (nine inch nails being one clear one).
how whack.

yet another half-assed post. i'm discovering alll these new ljs. Chryssie (emo), Kimmie (fabulous dress maker), imo-gen (hard g - like gum). of course i never doubted for a second that these people would have ljss. but it is fun to make new discoveries.
speaking of...nothing to do with that at all, i watched Out Of Africa this afternoon. ha...aha. robert redford looked in 1985 much like he does in 2005; i believe he can be found somewhere between a cowboy and carmilla parker bowles. and meryl streep's accent. my my, if that is what the danes are supposed to sound like, i don't envy you much soph-ie.
have been listening to a lot of sonic youth lately. no further comment.
( just because he's so nice to think about ) |
